First date fashion tips – Dubai blog

Let’s be honest: Going on a first date is a nerve-racking experience. In the best possible way, of course. But none the less. The first question that pops up is what to wear on a first date. No matter if you have met your new hottie on a online dating site or on one of your fashion shopping tours in Dubai. Here are some fashion tips that will help you out.

1.   Comfort is your priority

The rule above all other rules when it comes to choosing your outfit for this special occasion is the key to a great first date: Wear something that you feel comfortable in. And yes – that excludes sweatpants, PJs and the like. Instead choose something for which you have been complimented before. Always keep in mind that you want focus on your potential Mr. Perfect and not on fidgeting with the brand-new outfit you bought for this occasion.

2.   Check out the location beforehand

Imaging putting on your LBD for a first dinner date and ending up in a rustic Italian Trattoria. The food will be fantastic, but you will most probably feel overdressed and out of place. With other words: Let the location be your fashion guide! If he is choosing the place where you will meet, check out the website of the place and select your outfit accordingly.

3.   Highlight your most beautiful feature

Showing some skin is fine but do not go overboard. For instance: Show off your arms by wearing a strapless maxi dress. If you flash too much skin, you might come across as trashy, which is not what you are going for. Or even as too sexy, which might be intimidating.

4.   Choose clothing that fits

This might sound obvious, but we have all been there. You want to show him just how lucky he is, by looking absolutely gorgeous. You squeeze into that beautiful dress you have bought a year back, put on those sexy but slightly uncomfortable high-heels and go for a glamorously strong make-up style. As a result, you will look breath-taking for sure but in return you will also feel like the outfit is taking your breath away as well. As a rule of thumb: If you cannot walk, breath or eat in it – do not wear it for your first date. Remember that first dates already have the potential of being uncomfortable per se. So, there is no need to add to this sensation by wearing something which does not fit 100%. Keep rule #1 in mind! Choose something you are comfy in and keep it natural.

5.   Red vs. Black

Stereotyping guys might be fun, but we all know that judging a book by its cover can be misleading. When it comes to choosing the perfect outfit for your first date, there is a scientifically proven exception to this rule: Red! Men are suckers for red. According to a study by Daniela Niesta and Andrew Elliot from the University of Rochester, men find ladies in red dresses more appealing and sexy in comparison to other colours. A phenomenon known for the animal kingdom: male primates are irresistibly attracted to those females who “redden conspicuously when nearing ovulation, sending a clear sexual signal”. With this fact in mind, red might not be the most suiting colour, if you are looking for something more serious that a one-night stand.

Black is a great alternative! This colour makes you look elegant, alluring and a little mysterious without sending those sensual signals. For instance: Wear black leather leggings with a white blouse and maybe use a fun lipstick to dress it up.

6.   Preparation is the key to a relaxed first date

This advice might seem obvious. But it happens over and again that we find ourselves ironing our favourite dress just seconds before our date rings the doorbell to pick us up. Being stressed out before your first date has even started, is NOT a good idea! So, give yourself a lot of planning time beforehand to find and to prepare the outfit you are going to wear to your first date. And it cannot be stressed enough: Any outfit which requires a double-sided adhesive tape, permanent adjusting and/or the ability to hold your breath for long periods of time is an absolute no-go!

7.   Just be yourself

You are perfect. The man you are about to meet was smitten by the way you are and look. You are the person he wants to take out on a first date. Thus, dressing up as a femme fatale even if you normally prefer a more relaxed and natural look, might backfire. Always remember: You radiate to your outside how you feel inside.
