The Science Centre was born in from the then National Museum of Singapore into a separate institution so that the latter could specialise in its artistic and historical collections. This idea was first mooted in 1969 by the Science Council of Singapore, and was subsequently approved by the government, who was keen to promote scientific education in the rapidly modernising country keen to tap into the technological sector.
The SCS building’s architecture was decided by an architectural design competition organised by the Science Centre Board. Raymond Woo’s entry was selected, and was thus commissioned as the architect for the project. Built at a cost of S$12 million on a 60,000 m² site in Jurong East, it was officially opened on 10 December 1977 by Dr Toh Chin Chye, who was the Minister-in-charge of the Science Centre Board.

This place is indeed full of excitement and educational things for the children! Even my husband enjoyed the whole place. They even have the waterworks swimming pool outside Science Centre so it is indeed a good place to enjoy and for your kids to have so much fun and meet new friends while learning a lot of things. They even have McDonald’s outside so its more fun eating as well! Snow City is just beside Science Centre Singapore so if you guys want some more and feel the snow in the summer heat of Singapore go and make a snow man in Snow city! I’ve been to this place in April 2007, but looking at those pictures, I can’t seem to remember those places. The name of the place was already Science Center Singapore at that time.
Good thing there’s mind museum here in the Philippines which is partly influenced by Singapore Science Center.
I’ve been to Singapore twice but haven’t visited this place yet, I will bring my nieces here when I bring them to Universal Studios soon =)

I only went to the Arts and Science Museum in Singapore. The one that looks like a lotus. Is this the same thing? Ashley looked terrified of the Dinosaur. hehehehehe 😀

Science center is really designed for kids to learn and enjoy at the same time.
I visited that specific science center during my first trip to Singapore. I’m really not a fan of such, but this one from SIN made me wandering like a little kid! 🙂
And if I may add.. when I visited this during f1 season, I super wanted to try out the water area outside the center.. it was super fun to watch the little kids playing around. 🙂
I am a fan of science and that is one of the reasons I’m gonna enjoy places like Science Center. I was able to visit this place years ago along with Snow City.
I’m not a science fan but I do enjoy experiments…heheheh! This place is good exposure for kids, though.
