Cosmetic Dentistry: What You Should Know About CEREC- Dubai blog

CEREC is the short term for Chairside Economical Restoration of Esthetic Ceramics, which utilises computer generated images that eliminate the need for several dental appointments, allowing ceramics restoration to be completed in a single visit to the dentist. This is much preferred to waiting while the ceramics are moulded, which used to be the only way, and using CEREC speeds up the treatment program considerably, thanks to computer-generated assistance.

Single Visit Dental Restorations

Not all dental clinics can offer this ground-breaking service, but cosmetic dentistry specialist Sailors Bay Dentistry do, which is great if you happen to live within driving distance. The process can be used for crowns, fillings and veneers, and the CEREC machine creates accurate 3D images of the inside of a patient’s mouth, thus allowing for the restoration component to be created in the surgery, while the patient waits. The computerised 3D image can be carefully manipulated by the dentist, and once he or she feels they have a perfect fit, the file is sent to the 3D printer, which prints from a solid block of ceramic.

White Fillings

CEREC allows the dentist to create perfectly sized and shaped white fillings that look exactly like the tooth, which is a much-preferred alternative to traditional amalgam fillings. 3D printing creates the filling from a solid ceramic block, which is perfect in both size and shape, and what’s more, the colour of the filling perfectly matches your teeth.

No More Temporary Fix

When a person is having crown treatment, they usually have to wear a temporary crown for a few weeks, until the crown has been made, yet by using CEREC, the crown can be created there and then with a state-of-the-art 3D printer. This is the first time such a service has been possible, and it not only saves time, it also means a lower cost, which is always good news.

The Treatment

Whether a veneer, crown or filling, the first thing to do is scan the inside of the patient’s mouth using a special scanning device, then the 3D image is created by the technician. The patient can watch the process, and once the design is finished, the 3D printer works its magic, and the item is ready, and with some fine polishing, the dentist can fit the material there and then. The entire process takes about one hour, which is nothing compared to waiting a few weeks, as used to be the case.

This is a new treatment, therefore many dentists will not have the hardware to carry out CEREC, yet there are a few forward thinking dental clinics that have invested in this cutting edge technology, and a Google search will help you to locate the nearest CEREC treatment dentist. Apart from being quicker, CEREC is also very accurate, ensuring a perfect fit every time, and instead of having several appointments, the treatment is complete in a single visit.
